The South, West and Northeast host 22%, 18% and 20% respectively. A full 50% of all spring manufacturers distribute domestically.

About the Top Spring Manufacturers

Connecticut Spring and Stamping

Located in Farmington, CT, Connecticut Spring and Stamping employs 450 people dedicated to manufacturing precision metal parts. They produce over 500 different parts for firearms and weapons alone.

Other mission-critical industries they serve include medical and aviation.

Smalley Steel Ring Co.

Smalley Steel Ring Company, located in Lake Zurich, IL, leads the industry in retaining ring innovation. This innovation can be seen in proprietary designs like the Spirolox constant section retaining ring, which has no gaps or ears like other standard retaining rings do.

Innovation is also evident through the fact that they invented the first edge coiled wave spring back in 1968.

Their current product line includes over 6,000 standard size retaining rings and untold custom designs for customers. Smalley houses 450 employees.

Dayton Parts, LLC

Based in Harrisburg, PA, Dayton Parts formed in 1922 as a spring manufacturer. After WWII, they took advantage of the massive military surplus of leaf springs and used that to drive post-war expansion.

Today, they are the largest manufacturer of leaf springs in the nation. The 410 employees manufacture a broad line of springs, driveline, brake, steering and suspension components.

Firestone Industrial Products Co.

Springs do not have to be strictly made out of metal. Firestone Industrial Products in Williamsburg, KY, along with their 400 employees, manufactures various air springs for use in transportation vehicles.

It makes sense considering they patented the world's first air spring in 1938. Today their products include the Ride-Rite, Coil-Rite and Airide series of vehicle air spring systems.

Twist, Inc.

Jamestown, OH, is home to Twist, Inc. Starting with just six employees in 1971, Twist currently employs 343 people in two separate facilities totaling 500,000 sq ft.

Each facility is dedicated to its own specific products (such as compression, extension and torsion springs) to ensure that manufacturing techniques can be customized at scale for that operation.

Leggett & Platt, Inc. (Monroe and Ennis facilities)

The division of Leggett & Platt, Inc based in Monroe, GA, houses 330 employees and builds specialized springs for box springs and mattresses.

This continues the legacy of founders J.P. Leggett and C.B. Platt who designed the steel coil bedspring in 1885. Despite the effects of COVID-19, the parent company still has $1.3 billion in liquidity as of June 30, 2020. The company also has a facility in Ennis, TX, that manufactures bed springs and employs 300 people.

NHK of America Suspension Components, Inc.

NHK of America Suspension Components, Inc. employs 330 people in Bowling Green, KY, who are proud to be known as the world's largest manufacturer of automotive suspension coil springs.

Prototypes are built in house to reduce design time followed by fully-automated and self-contained manufacturing. Their manufacturing techniques include both hot and cold winding in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, enabling the company to supply springs for any type of vehicle in existence.

Altak Inc.

Based in Bloomingdale, IL, Altak Inc. and its sister company provide spring solutions for the automotive and transportation industries.

Along with providing engineering guidance for customers, the 300 employees of Altak also offer automated value-added assembly.

Automatic Spring Products Corp.

Automatic Spring Products Corporation specializes in compression, torsion and extension springs. This manufacturer is located in Grand Haven, MI, and employs 300 people.

The industries they support include agriculture, medical, automotive, office furniture and construction. For parts that require extra strength, they have the in-house capability of oil quench heat treating.
