In July, the manufacturing story was defined by aviation and autonomous systems. August arrived with a different kind of scale. The month's defining moment came when SpaceX and Tesla confirmed that their jointly developed semiconductor factory — a proposed 100-million-square-foot campus in Texas with a first-phase investment of $16.8 billion — is real, approved, and breaking ground before year-end. But that was only the beginning. Three separate life sciences companies announced manufacturing commitments totaling more than $3 billion across four states, a global commercial truck leader announced it will build its largest U.S. plant ever, and the electrical infrastructure manufacturing sector posted one of its strongest months in recent memory, with major facilities advancing in Georgia, Texas, and California.

Semiconductor And Advanced Technology Manufacturing
SpaceX And Tesla Confirm $16.8 Billion Terafab Semiconductor Factory In Grimes County, Texas
Governor Greg Abbott announced on August 6 that SpaceX will invest $16.8 billion in the first phase of Terafab, a jointly developed advanced semiconductor manufacturing complex with Tesla in Grimes County, Texas. The first-of-its-kind facility will consolidate logic, memory, packaging, and testing under a single roof at a campus that is expected to exceed 100 million square feet when fully built out, and will produce chips intended to power SpaceX and Tesla's computing infrastructure at scale, from autonomous vehicle systems to space-based data centers. The first phase is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs, with construction beginning before the end of 2026. The project is qualified under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation Act and is supported by a $30 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant.

Octapharma Announces $1.5 Billion First U.S. Manufacturing Campus In Rock Hill, South Carolina
Octapharma, the largest privately owned plasma fractionator in the world, announced on July 29 that it will invest $1.5 billion to establish its first-ever U.S. manufacturing and production site at the Palmetto Research Park in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The 50-acre campus is expected to create approximately 1,500 full-time jobs in York County, making it one of the largest private biomedical investments in South Carolina history. Once operational, the facility will produce plasma-derived therapies including treatments for bleeding disorders, immune deficiencies, and critical care conditions, reducing U.S. dependence on overseas supply chains for these essential medicines.
Tobias Marguerre, Deputy Chairman of Octapharma, said, “We have built a significant presence in the US over the last 20 years through our commercial capabilities, alongside our extensive network of plasma donation centres. From a U.S. national security perspective, having the ability to produce and supply our therapies domestically is invaluable.”
Resilience And Eli Lilly Invest $750 Million To Expand GLP-1 Injectable Manufacturing In Cincinnati, Ohio
Resilience and Eli Lilly announced on July 30 a $750 million investment to expand Resilience’s advanced manufacturing operations in the Cincinnati, Ohio region, with the expansion adding production of Lilly’s KwikPen injectable device for GLP-1 therapies including medicines that treat diabetes and obesity. The investment will create at least 400 new high-skilled jobs, bringing total Resilience employment in Ohio to more than 1,400 across its facilities. Site preparation is already underway, with full operations expected to commence in early 2027. The two companies have produced more than 150 million doses of medicines for U.S. patients through their partnership to date. William S. STERIS Announces $600 Million Chemistries Manufacturing Center Of Excellence In Sanford, North Carolina
STERIS announced on August 5 a $600 million investment to build a Formulated Chemistries Manufacturing and Distribution Center of Excellence in Sanford, North Carolina, near the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle. The largest investment in STERIS history, the 600,000-square-foot campus will produce high-performance infection prevention and contamination control chemistries used across the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, and is expected to create approximately 335 jobs in Lee County. The facility will consolidate STERIS’s existing chemistries manufacturing and distribution operations from St. Louis, Missouri and Plymouth, Minnesota.

Genentech Announces $750 Million Injectable Medicine Manufacturing Expansion In Hillsboro, Oregon
Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, announced on August 20 plans to invest approximately $750 million in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility at its 75-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon. The investment will double the size of the existing facility and is expected to create an additional 250 specialized manufacturing jobs, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2031. The new facility will support the manufacturing of advanced drug delivery devices including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors, and is designed to offer flexible manufacturing capacity across both high- and low-volume device filling to respond to the evolving needs of Roche and Genentech’s pipeline.
The Hillsboro investment follows the recent topping out of Genentech’s new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, which is designed to support metabolic medicines including next-generation obesity treatments.
Robinson Pharma Opens 260,000-Square-Foot Dietary Supplement Manufacturing Facility In Irvine, California
Robinson Pharma, one of the largest dietary supplement contract manufacturers in the United States, announced on August 3 the opening of its newest facility in Irvine, California, the company’s 10th location. The new site adds 260,000 square feet to the company’s total operational production space and expands Robinson Pharma’s capabilities as a full-service contract manufacturer, supporting clients across supplement formats including softgels, capsules, tablets, powders, and liquid formulations.
The facility is registered with the FDA and holds multiple third-party GMP certifications.

Toyota Material Handling North America Opens $100 Million Electric Forklift Factory In Columbus, Indiana
Toyota Material Handling North America officially opened a new $100 million electric forklift manufacturing facility at its Columbus, Indiana campus on August 5, bringing an additional 140 jobs to the site. The new 295,000-square-foot factory is dedicated to producing electric forklifts for both the Toyota and Raymond brands and brings the company’s total Columbus manufacturing footprint to 1.9 million square feet. The campus now employs more than 2,100 people.

Daimler Truck North America Plans New Greenfield U.S. Manufacturing Facility
Daimler Truck North America announced on August 6 that it will build a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the United States, the company’s largest U.S. truck plant ever, with construction expected to begin by the end of 2026 and production targeted to start in late 2029. The facility will leverage advanced manufacturing technologies and flexible assembly processes capable of producing a broad range of vehicle configurations, including electric, autonomous, and traditional trucks. DTNA is currently evaluating multiple potential locations for the facility, with the project expected to create thousands of jobs over time. PPG Breaks Ground On $280 Million Automotive Coatings Expansion In Delaware, Ohio
PPG broke ground in August on a more than $280 million expansion of its automotive coatings manufacturing site in Delaware, Ohio, adding 100,000 square feet of new production space and approximately 100 jobs. The expansion will add waterborne basecoat and primer production, clearcoat manufacturing, real-time quality evaluation capabilities, and automated material movement technologies. Operations at the expanded facility are expected to begin in 2028.

Siemens Announces $185 Million Electrical Components Manufacturing Facility In Pendergrass, Georgia
Siemens announced on August 7 plans to invest at least $185 million in a new 550,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Pendergrass, Georgia, that will produce low-voltage electrical components for the infrastructure, industrial, and technology markets. The project, located in Jackson County and pending final approvals, is expected to create more than 1,400 jobs over the next three years and is Siemens’ third manufacturing facility in Georgia. Buildout is expected to begin in November 2026, with hiring for engineering, fabrication, assembly, and testing roles scheduled to start in 2027.

IEM Announces $200 Million Power Distribution Manufacturing Facility In San Antonio, Texas
Industrial Electric Mfg. announced on August 25 a $200 million investment in a new 1-million-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility at Brooks City Base in San Antonio, Texas, representing the single largest job-producing investment in the San Antonio area in more than two decades. The facility will expand IEM’s production capacity for custom power distribution and control systems used across data centers, industrial facilities, utilities, and mission-critical infrastructure, and is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs by 2030.

SEG Solar held the grand opening of its second 4-gigawatt solar module manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas on August 7, completing a more than $200 million investment that brings the company’s total annual U.S. module production capacity to approximately 6 gigawatts. The new 500,000-square-foot facility is expected to create up to 800 jobs and is designed with the flexibility to integrate next-generation solar technologies, including heterojunction cells, as the industry evolves. The expansion positions SEG as one of the largest 100 percent U.S.-owned solar module manufacturers.

DeltaX Announces $141 Million Battery Energy Storage Manufacturing Campus In Monroe, Georgia
Governor Brian Kemp announced on August 14 that DeltaX, a global provider of advanced battery energy storage solutions, will invest $141 million to establish its North American manufacturing headquarters in Monroe, Georgia. The facility, to be located at the Piedmont Regional Industrial Park in Walton County, will include a 100,000-square-foot BESS assembly facility in its first phase, followed by additional manufacturing facilities dedicated to key component production. The project is expected to create approximately 250 new jobs.

Ursa Major Opens New Longmont Avionics And In-Space Propulsion Manufacturing Facility In Colorado
Ursa Major opened a new manufacturing facility in Longmont, Colorado on August 20, expanding production of avionics and in-space propulsion systems and freeing additional manufacturing floor at its Berthoud, Colorado headquarters for liquid engines, vehicle integration, and solid rocket motor programs. The Longmont facility has capacity to seat more than 125 employees and features dedicated welding and manufacturing labs, an ISO 7 hard-walled clean room with an ISO 8 gowning room, and an environmental test lab. The company now operates six sites across Colorado and Ohio.

Bartell Machinery announced on August 18 a significant expansion of its manufacturing facility in Rome, New York, adding 22,400 square feet of high-bay production space to its existing 152,000-square-foot plant. The expansion includes 30-ton crane capacity and is driven by sustained demand across Bartell’s product lines, which include equipment for rubber and tire, wire and cable, and oil and gas manufacturing.
